Are you Registered to Vote???
OK millennials, Gen Y’s and Gen X, I need yawl to do me a favor in my Midwest drawl. I need you to make sure you are going to vote in the 2020 election. Most of you have been involved in the protest across the world regarding social and economic inequality, policing and the murder of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and Ahmaud Arbery. Now it is time for you to put that movement into action. Historically young folks are not known for casting ballots during election season but I am hoping that this time will be different. A lot of you have opinions about our current president and democratic nominee. regardless of your political or personal views get out there and exercise your RIGHT. I know how it may appear that your vote doesn’t make a difference, but that very vote is what enabled us to put the first African American in the white house, not just for one term but two. President Obama was a dream realized for African Americans across this country. My mother who grew up drinking from colored water fountains during the Jim Crow era could have never imagined a black man being president. As the first generation in my family born with full rights in this country, I feel I have an obligation to practice the very rights that so many before me died for in order for me to go out and Vote. This election is important on so many levels and with the state of our union in distress along with the current division that hasn’t plagued this country since the civil war, young people need to take up the mantle of change and help us hit the reset button on civility. So, if you were out in those streets during Covid risking your life to fight for the right of others. Do me a favor and finish the job. VOTE in 2020. We need you.
